About

Hello! I’m Anna.

Anna

Red Stem is actually a one-woman show comprised solely of myself.

I work out of my studio (currently my attic) and spend a great deal of time staring off into space.

More about my background.

I graduated with honors in 2005 from the Ohio State University and earned my degree in History of Art with minors in French and Psychology. I then ventured from Ohio to northern California for graduate school and completed my Master’s in Chinese Art History in June of 2008. My research interests were wide-ranging when I was in grad school, and included women’s embroidery of Imperial China as well as Opium War visual culture and advertising in Shanghai.

While in school, I was always creating art on the side, but hesitated to consider myself an “artist.” In March of 2009, I took the plunge and began dedicating myself full-time to crafting and creating art.

Drawing upon my art history training and meager background in applied arts, I create a handmade jewelry line that is playful, stylish, and versatile. My designs are inspired by Chinese ink painting-turned-technicolor and are created on recycled plastic. The hardware found on the jewelry is finely crafted from recycled sterling silver.

I live with my husband, Chris, our three cats, Bump, Axl, and Lily, and our dog, Luna.
